In recognition of Leukemia and Lymphoma awareness month, Castleview Hospital would like to extend an invitation to attend their Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Cake Raffle Fundraiser. The event will be held in the hospital classroom located at the south entrance on Wednesday, September 27 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, with announcement of raffle winners scheduled for 1:30 pm.
“Every three minutes someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer and there is no treatment and no way to prevent a blood cancer,” said HR/Business Director, Misty Birch. “It’s something that is close to my heart and my goal is to raise enough money to where we can have our own Light the Night Walk, here locally. Last year we raised about $7,300.00 and my goal this year is $10,000.00.” Tickets will be available to purchase, a $1.00 gets you 1 ticket, $5.00 gets you 6 tickets and $10.00 gets you 12 tickets. All proceeds raised during the month benefit LLS through research, patient support and information programs.
Community members that are unable to attend the raffle event may still participate. “Anybody can make a cake, it’s opened up to the public, they can bring in a cake, the highest raffled cake will get the prize. We will have two divisions, basically one fondant and one regular type icing cake,” stated Birch. Local cake makers will have a chance to show off their baking and decorating skills. Various gift certificates from local businesses and merchants will accompany some of the cakes.
Each chapter every year names an Honored Hero that shares their courageous story and they put a “face” to the LLS’s mission of finding a cure and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. “An Honored Hero is someone who’s had leukemia or lymphoma, any type of blood cancer. This year Tait Levanger is our Honored Hero, so he’s not just the Honored Hero for Carbon and Emery county, but he’s the Honored Hero for Utah,” said Birch. Tait was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in April 2016, he is the son of Cory and Marni Levanger.
