PRICE, Utah – Utah State University Eastern today named Chelsey Warburton as the new Athletic Director.
Warburton has been the head women’s basketball coach the past two seasons and will continue in that capacity while serving her new role.
“Chelsey Warburton brings an amazing vision and a wealth of experience to the athletic director position,” said Vice Chancellor Greg Dart. “We are confident that she can help carry forward the vision for athletics.
Warburton will begin take on the new role beginning June 1, 2017. She takes over from Dave Paur who will be retiring from his position after more than 25 years of service to Utah State Eastern.
“The impact of Dave Paur can never really be quantified,” said Dart. “he has been instrumental in building athletics to where it is today.”
Prior to taking over the head coaching role, Warburton was the assistant women’s basketball coach and head volleyball coach at Utah State Eastern.
Her success, however, started as a player. Warburton played basketball professionally overseas in Amsterdam and Holland. As a Price native, she began her collegiate career for College of Eastern Utah for one season before transferring to play for Weber State. During her time with the Eagles, she helped lead the team to their best season in school history.
At Weber State, she scored over 1,000 points and holds the single-game record for three-pointers made in a game. She also holds both the Weber State and Big Sky Conference single season 3-point field goals made.
“I am excited to help move forward the vision of excellence,” said Warburton. “We have all the pieces to take the department to the next level, for great coaches, great support staff and amazing student athletes.”
Utah State University Eastern Athletic undertook a new vision three years ago focused on development of the whole student athlete. Under that new vision, the institution has added men’s and women’s soccer, softball, rodeo, and a spirit squad. An exclusive deal was signed with Under Armour apparel, athletic fundraising has reached new heights and a rebranding effort was introduced. Support staff including academic advising, athletic training and tutoring resources have been enhanced, and facility upgrades including new soccer fields, a revamped weight room and academic support areas have been undertaken. In total, Utah State Eastern has about 230 student athletes.
